Production Manager of a small biscuit manufacturer – Isle of Mull

In our opinion our client, Island Bakery ( make the best biscuits in the world - we have done a lot of taste testing!  Due to an increase in demand for their delicious organic biscuits and a desire to grow the business, they are looking for someone at a senior level to join their family run business on this idyllic island on Scotland’s West coast.

Finding the right fit for the business is the key.  They want someone who can be hands on, working closely with the shop floor. Someone with a strong knowledge and experience of fast-moving production and/or operations management will be ideal. Adaptability, and a broad range of skills and experience in food manufacture are essential in joining a small business where you will have oversight of all aspects of day-to-day operations. Aptitude is more important than directly-relevant experience – so someone with a career outside of food production could be equally suitable. Above all, we need someone who is a good ‘people person’ but also has a good understanding of best manufacturing practice and engineering.

We are looking for someone who has real drive and passion for improving efficiencies and who will lead the production team.  Playing a key role within a small business, you will have input across almost every area of the operation. On the flip side, you must be prepared to roll up your sleeves and be responsive to the fast moving needs of the business. You will need an eye for detail, a sharp focus on quality and productivity, and a co-operative approach to management.

This is a unique opportunity to come and work in a small, but ambitious, family business in one of the UK’s most scenic and peaceful locations, offering an enviable quality of life for the right person. For further information on Mull please review .

As a key position in a small but ambitious business, there is real potential for this post to develop and reward the right candidate.

As Production Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Continuous Improvement – ensure processes and production is running as efficiently as possible and introduce new ways of working to achieve this.
  • Production Operations – manage production, control and improve the production cycle, source equipment, ensure health & safety compliance, quality and budget management.  Play a key role in audits.
  • Business Transformation – play a lead role in growing the business, including  implementing plans for a factory expansion, and contributing to setting the strategic direction of the company.

As Production Manager, the following skills & experience is required:

  • A background in food manufacturing, preferably in bakery. Biscuit knowledge would be ideal, but other food production or related experience would be considered.
  • You will be familiar with production  and packaging machinery, production best practice,  and how to optimise operations to minimise waste and maximise quality.
  • Demonstrable track record in Operations or Production Management and Continuous Improvement with examples of successful schemes you have implemented.

As Production Manager, you will receive:

  • A competitive base salary
  • A company performance related bonus
  • Pension provision
  • Assistance with re-location
  • The opportunity to live and work in an idyllic Scottish rural setting
  • Access to the best biscuits in the world (our opinion!)

If you meet the skills and experience above and are keen to learn more about this unique opportunity, then please send your CV letting us know when you are free to talk further.  We can call out of core office hours.
